Growing Through God’s Word
Put God’s Word in action in your life and develop your faith by participating our Christian Education program. All of the classes are centered upon the basic teachings of Jesus Christ and intended to help you practice your faith in a world that needs the Gospel.
God's Word in Action
For Children
Your children’s spiritual form formation and Christian education is a priority. Working alongside our staff and Sunday School teachers you will help your children grow into mature adults whose primary focus is Jesus Christ and the forgiveness He offers through His work upon the cross where He promised that He "will never leave you nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5).
To that end we promise to:
- Focus all teaching firmly upon the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
- Walk with parents as they teach their children how to love and follow Jesus.
- Fully train the children in the Bible utilizing Luther's Small Catechism to teach them the Six Chief Parts of Christianity.
- Develop a desire in our children to reach out with the Good News of Jesus to others.
- Promote healthy and caring relationships based on reaching out with God's love.
- Use material intended to engage the children at every age level and stage of development.
- Encourage the children to enjoy their faith and have fun learning about Jesus together.
Sunday School (Ages 3-14)
You will discover that our Sunday School curriculum, “Enduring Faith,” is based upon the primary narratives found within the Bible. Through it, the children are taught the great biblical accounts from Adam and Eve all the way through to the book of Revelation in age-appropriate classes. At the end of their Sunday School years, they will have an in-depth understanding of the entire Bible. You are your child’s most important teacher of the faith, but we are here to help.
Vacation Bible School
Your children’s faith development doesn’t take the summer off, so to that end you will have the opportunity to enroll them in our Vacation Bible School. This is an opportunity to have them learn even more about the faith in a five-day all ages (four and above) class that focuses upon Christ’s love for them and how it’s given through His means of grace. The 2021 class is called “Sanctified” and is centered upon the Ten Commandments. This class is fun, informative, and a wonderful way to help your child put faith in action.
VBS takes place June 13 to 17 and begins at 5:30 with a light supper, ending at 8:00 pm. Adults can join, too. Please call or message the Church office to enroll or to volunteer.
Christmas Program
Your children will be afforded the opportunity participate in something very significant in our Children’s Christmas Service. This is not a pageant performance where the kids are merely props for yuletide cuteness, rather, they actually proclaim the Gospel of Jesus in a meaningful way during the Divine Service. The Children’s Christmas Service usually occurs on the Third Sunday of Advent (mid-December).
Confirmation Classes
As your children grow, so does their need for faith enhancement. Catechesis (commonly called “confirmation”) is a process through which they will be instructed in the finer points of Christian faith and Lutheran teaching. This class is intended for your children who are in middle school and is taught by our pastor. Over the course of two years, they will learn about the fundamental doctrines of the Ten Commandments, Apostles’ Creed, Lord’s Prayer, Baptism, Absolution, and Holy Communion. This class leads to membership in the church and admittance to the Lord’s Supper.
For Adults
Put God’s Word in action in your life and develop your faith by participating our Christian Education program. All of the classes are centered upon the basic teachings of Jesus Christ and intended to help you practice your faith in a world that needs the Gospel.
Sunday Adult Bible Study
Immediately following the Divine Service, you can grab a donut with a cup of coffee and deep-dive into the Bible. You will explore the Scripture in a class lead by our pastor who has more than thirty years of knowledge and experience in communicating the truths of the Bible. Together, we will examine how Scripture applies to your life today.
A Beer and a Bible (Men's Study)
Pick up your favorite bottle of suds and join the men of Bethel for a class intended to hone your appreciation and understanding of the Bible. Proverb 27:17 says that “as iron sharpens iron so one man sharpens another.” We gather to support and encourage each other by looking at the Bible and how we can best serve God as men through receiving His gifts. We meet at pastor’s house every week in a very informal setting.
Book Club
There are so many wonderful books out there about Jesus and faith that you will certainly want to join our book club to discuss them. In it, you will explore the richness of theology through the eyes of various authors. We usually only read one chapter a week, so you won’t be overwhelmed. Some of the books we’ve discussed in the past are, Will the Real Jesus Please Stand Up, Being Lutheran, and The Screwtape Letters.
Adult Instruction/New Member Class
You are never pressured to join our congregation as this is always a personal choice. That said, if you are interested in learning about the Lutheran Church and how its main love is proclaiming all that our Lord has done for us, then you may desire to speak to our pastor about his Adult Instruction/New Member Class. Together, you will examine the main teachings of the Bible and Lutheranism by reviewing its six chief parts: The Ten Commandments, Apostles’ Creed, Lord’s Prayer, Baptism, Absolution, and the Lord’s Supper. But this is not your average and boring old class, it’s to the point and will show you the relevance of God in your life.
